I don't think I've ever laughed as hard as i did listening to Ron Santo call a game against the Phillies where Marmol entered with a 1-0 lead in the 9th and poured gasoline all over the place and struck a match.

I swear if he could have he'd have rolled his ass out to the mound and murdered him on the spot.

Hopefully the Nats have learned by the way the Yankees absolutely screwed the pooch with Joba. Babied him at first with the Joba rules that had everybody on his own team rolling their eyes, then took him out of the pen and made him a starter, then jerked him back and forth, then watched him blow out his elbow.

I know the whole role-change thing isn't an issue with Strasburg, but they really could wind up screwing with his mind if they try to baby his arm too much. Maybe they'll find a creative way to keep him from going too far over 160 without having to shut him down completely.

Hell, they've been known to take that long to play seven in a 1-0 game. And get out the No-Doz for Saturday's split doubleheader ...

It looked like he hit the ball with a driver.

Yanks 10-Sox 8. Only took four hours plus and about 39 pitchers. Over/under on the elapsed time of tomorrow's day-nighter, game time only, is 8 hours 57 minutes. And I'm betting the over.
Honestly, who thinks this is entertainment? My daughter is a strong Sox fan. She gave up watching after the bottom of the seventh. I hate both teams. They are talented and are the worst the sport has to offer.

    No. And no.

And did someone suggest that a team in a pennant race in September trot a starter out for 2 or 3 innings and then bring Strasburg in for 4 or 5 innings? Jesus.

I don't have the exact numbers, but Strasburg has pitched into the seventh inning only a few times this year. Lots of 4-5-6 inning starts. Mostly because he can't keep his pitch count under a million. He was pulled once for heat exhaustion. And once for a cut on his finger. And once for biceps soreness that turned out to be nothing. He's never pitched in the eighth inning. So it's not like he's going out there throwing up 8 and 9 inning starts.

Let's see....how bout if we just turn Strasburg into a closer? Yeah. That'll cut down his innings. I'm sure someone will suggest that sooner or later.

Just got home from watching Strasburg lose his third in a row. Maybe they ought to shut him down now!?!?

Losing to the Little League team that was put out there tonight counts as five losses.

Ryan, I have a lot of sympathy and even support for your position. But I'm a Phillies fan. Franchise is 130 years old. Two world championships. At some point, to quote another noted Washington sports figure, the future IS now. Why the hell, if you think you might contend, you don't put Strasburg's innings in the second half of the year?
I think the Nats management is using their valid concern about the health of a potentially great pitcher as a means of dousing pennant fever among the fans. Because Nats management, and I know those guys, isn't ready to reach for the big prize.

Who was that jack straw who hit two out on him and damn near hit another later? And some guy named Pomerantz did what Cain, Lincecum a d Bumgarner couldn't do. Crazy game.

You in the business of predicting the future, Gee? Christ almighty. Say you start the season with the idiotic notion of "Boy, we're really gonna be good this year. How bout we sit Strasburg and pitch him in the second half!" Then, the Nats lose 30 of their first 40 or so. Then what?

Nats management not ready for the big prize? And they're doing this as a way of dousing pennant fever among the fans? You really believe that?

Moddy. You're right. Strasburg's innings are getting up there. And he's lost 3 straight. Sit him now. Or better yet. Trade him. If anyone even wants him.
