Should this be in the NBA thread with all of the pathetic pictures of legends in their "Namath as a Ram" jerseys?

He didn't have enough power to be a DH back then, and his hitting suffered once he started having to deal with his throwing problems.

Supposedly, the problems started when he threw the ball back to a pitcher (Dwight Gooden?) who wasn't looking for the ball and ended up getting hit in the head.

I started a topic last night on Jeter's pursuit of Rose's hit record. It appears it was deleted either by a moderator or in a message board glitch. I will summarize my posts here:

    * In the next few days, Jeter will move within 1,000 hits of Rose's career regular season mark.

    * We should be including Jeter's postseason hits, which moves him to only 867 hits behind Rose.

    * Modern players have a disadvantage when pursuing career records, which is that teams will keep them in the minors longer to stall the free agency clock. Jeter was the most talented player in the 1992 draft, and based on how he tore up the minors at every level he should have earned a promotion to NY as early as 1993. A conservative estimate is that he was cheated out of at least 350 hits at the beginning of his career. Add that total to his current postseason and regular season hits and he has 3,740 hits.

Is that including postseason home runs? Did he miss a few years in the Majors because he stayed in the Minors for to long? Since we all know that really matters.

Alright, good to know. I'll make sure to remember that when I create my "Ryan Howard Hall of Fame" thread. :D

Does Harper have to subtract 100 off his eventual HR total because he got to the majors at 19? Take 75 off for Trout since he was 20?

I didn't give Jeter credit for hits he would have gotten without injuries.

You're being pretty optimistic...Harper only has 8 HRs so far.

I'm just trying to make the comparisons more even...Jeter was 22 in his rookie season while Pete Rose was 20.

Am I wrong or did the games used to start up again on Thursday?
