Upton might actually be more gifted than Cabrera (more speed), but he has not the elite hitter that Cabrera was at the point the Marlins traded him. Cabrera had hit over .320 for three consecutive seasons, drove in over 110 runs in four consecutive seasons and went over 30 home runs three out of four.

Upton is younger. He is 24 and Cabrera was traded after his age 27 season. But he does have that injury history as well. That is one thing that has slowed Upton's development and at has to be at least some concern going forward.

Man, I'm still not even close to seeing Upton as being a difference-maker the way he seems to be considered by some.

I know we're not allowed to talk about the Nats, but I'm going to anyway.

Read this in the paper this morning (and it was only a brief).

Apparently Ozzie Guillen had a problem with the pine tar on Bryce Harper's bat, and pointed a bat toward him when he was batting.

Later in the game, Harper switched bats (although he said it was pretty much like the first one) and then made a gesture toward Guillen after the at bat. Guillen was unhappy with the gesture and said he was going to speak with Davey Johnson after the game.

I'm not sure what kind of gesture Harper made toward Guillen, but since Guillen initiated this, he probably needs to STFU.

    Good luck with that.

    That was interesting.

It's a shame that people like Ozzie Guillen never step back for a moment and notice that they're always the lightning rod for shitstorms like this. And then ask themselves why that is.

BTW, Davey Johnson gave back about as good as he got with Ozzie, I read.

Sorry for the competition's link, Moddy. I didn't see your paper's link (although I didn't go past the first page of a google search).

Anyway, good for Harper to keep his composure and let Ozzie be the one to make an ass of himself.

The Brewers are skipping Zack Greinke's next start, which was scheduled for Wednesday. He won't pitch at all this week. I've seen one report that his velocity was down in his last start, another that said he was right in line with his usual numbers. Either way, his last four appearances have been lousy. Maybe starting him July 8 after he was ejected in the first inning of the previous day's game hurt. Maybe not. Still darn lousy timing for the Brewers with Milwaukee trying to trade him.

Cabrera was 24 when the Tigers acquired him.

This is so not my day. You're right. I read it wrong. Even more reason that the comparison of Upton now and Cabrera then doesn't hold up.

Probably because Kinsler turned the DP anyway.

Watch Harper every time he goes to the plate. He makes a similar motion with his bat - now the question is did he say anything this time? My guess is not. Ozzie being Ozzie.
