Rosenthal reports Red Sox shopping Carl Crawford, perhaps in a deal for Jose Reyes or Hanley Ramirez:

RickStain reports that those are absurd proposals. It would be extremely fortunate for Boston if anyone were to relieve them of that awful contract for a broken player. They aren't getting someone good back on top of it.

Mauer's contract was a reasonable one going forward because:

    1. He was a young MVP at a premium position;
    2. He was a local hero; and
    3. The Twins were moving into a new stadium and needed the local hero.

Mauer was Linsanity on a much smaller scale for the Twins (okay limited to Minn.)

Unfortunately, he got that mysterious illness. I applaud the Twins for making that commitment to Mauer rather than letting him go.

Royals cut Jonathan Sanchez after half a year. Wow. Okay he's 1-6 with an 8 ERA, but still he's a lefty with swing-through stuff who can at least be a reliever (he used to do it.)

Thank goodness for the Melkman (and Sabean!)

Changing gears ... as Melky Cabrera continues his MVP-candidate performance, the Royals designate Jonathan Sanchez for assignment. KC management is really making that predicted leap forward.

EDIT: qtlaw beat me to it. But we're all laughing out here. And it will soothe the wound when Zack Wheeler arrives with the Mets and we're forced to confront that the Giants gave him a way for two months of Carlos Beltran.

Yeah, but hasn't that been a symptom of the Royals in the lean years -- hanging onto people who showed it at one point while they fail to show it over and over again in the present?

When it rains it pours for the Jays....

Down 4-0 early to the Yankees and Brett Lawrie takes a scary tumble into the photographer's bay while chasing a foul. His right leg landed hard on the railing as he fell. Does not look good.

The way Farrell chucked Lawrie's glove in to the bench summed it all up....

X-rays are negative, and it's just a calf bruise. I have a feeling he won't miss a game.

    Love the effort.

I'd be surprised if he is back before next week. Man, that was nasty whack he took on his leg.

I know Lawrie plays on the edge and that's what make him such a fan fave but that seemed kind of reckless to me, chasing a foul like that early in a game you are already way behind in.

David Ortiz put on the DL with a sore heel, which he injured Monday while circling the bases on Adrian Gonzalez's home run:

Bet they're glad they traded Youkilis now ...

Lawrie goes in to the pit of death. Jays should protest the game on the grounds that zillion dollar Yankee Stadium has inadequate protection in its camera bay!
