This definitely seems more sustainable. The path just got a little easier with the Reds losing Votto for three or four weeks. That is just a devastating blow for Cinci.

I saw that Chris Carpenter is going to have season-ending surgery, but the Cardinals seem to have adapted to losing him just fine. Even with Pujols gone and getting nothing from Carpenter, it looks like they are going to be in it to the end again.

Code violation alert! Chipper Jones rips Melky Cabrera for what appeared to be quite a few taunts aimed toward his former teammates and fans in Atlanta on Wednesday night, including one in which the writer says he "appeared to make a motion with his hands near his groin" during the six-run 11th inning.

“That’s Melky, and that’s why he’s not here anymore,” Jones said.

First pitch of series finale in 42 minutes. Melky catches one in ribs in 52 minutes.

He's not there anymore because he didn't hit when he was with the Braves. If the player he has been since the beginning of 2011 had shown up in Atlanta, Jones would be dealing with him just fine.

They look legit to me at this point. 4.5 games clear of a playoff spot and the fourth-best run differential in the NL.

Same as before, I still think their pitching is going to regress some in the final months, but their offense should improve enough to make up for it, especially if they make any sort of deadline deals at all.

Young Larry Jones is getting a little uppity as he steps out the door.

And he was a fat slob who didn't hustle. He and Reggie Sanders (who also picked his one year in Atlanta to have the worst season of his career) can go piss up a rope.

Melky likely played/ate his way out of Atlanta. Fine. Chipper and his mighty 30 rbis needs to pipe down though.

    Chipper's only played in 54 games. He's got an .882 OPS, which ain't bad for a 40-year-old.

Cabrera has two more hits today, including a triple, to raise his average to .357. He wasn't this player two years ago. If the production had been there two years ago, he'd still be playing for the Braves regardless of what Jones thinks.

Exactly, and he's quite clearly in better shape. I think he said he shed something like 25 pounds after the 2010 season. It's pretty obvious from looking at him.

I don't really care about all this "unwritten rules" crap between players and teams. But Melky's acting like a dick at every opportunity, and he deserves to get booed.

But this might give Storen a chance to come in and give up three runs like he did for the Senators the other night ...
