And the Phillies, meanwhile, got their fourth straight win in their last at-bat. Three of them were walk-offs.
I know they're 14 games behind the Nats, but am I deluding myself to think the Phils might still be in this thing? They're finally getting healthy and, seemingly, getting hot. Nine of their next 12 games are against the Braves and Nationals. Outside of the Braves/Nats games (nine in the last two weeks of the season), the September schedule is pretty soft.
Plus, we have the impending Strasburg shutdown, the Mets sucking and the Marlins giving up. The next two weeks will determine a lot for the Phils, but it feels like if they can make up four or five games in that stretch they can make some noise.

Weaver happened to hit the same guy twice. In each situation, there was no discernable reason he would do it on purpose. Especially the second time, when there were two out and a man already on base. I understand the suspicion, but there wasn't intent.

Hochevar hit Trout on a 3-0 pitch (after giving up a homer to the No. 9 hitter) and the intent was obvious. I understand why Hochevar did it, but it was pretty obvious.

Last year, Loe was middle relief. Takashi Saito and LaTroy Hawkins (both gone) set up Rodriguez (8th) and Axford (9th).

Agreed. Butler is still getting better and he is already a very good hitter. He is also showing more power than he had in the past. Hit home run No. 20 off Weaver today.

Butler is a big upgrade over McGehee.

    If the Buccos can go

    Presley
    Walker
    Cutch
    Jones
    Butler
    El Toro
    McKenry/Barajas
    Barmes

    and

Burnett, Wandy, Bedard, McDonald and Karstens for a rotation without giving up Cole, Tallion, Marte or Bell, I will be very, very happy.

  6. For whatever reason I thought billy butler was a lot older than that. I suppose playing first every day might improve that defense. I'm still not sure the bucs should give up more than one of the mentioned prospects, and I don't know/think that's enough to get it done.

  7. I do t think anyone argued that butler was an upgrade over mcgehee, my only beef was his inability to play defense every day at first. Or even most days.

  8. You know at the trade deadline if you take a story about potential trades and replace the word "sources" with "manatees" - the stories become much more amusing without losing any veracity.

So he got ejected without a warning being issued to both teams first? I haven't seen a clip or anything of the game, so I don't know if the teams didn't get warned beforehand.

A warning is not required under the rules, though generally one is issued before anyone gets ejected.

Just counting up the pitches that it took for the strikeouts (3 x 17), the walks (4 X 9), the other 10 outs (10X 1), the two hits and the HBP, it's 100 pitches right there.

Assuming he threw at least one other pitch in each at-bat, there's another 39 pitches. And that's not counting any extras, foul balls, etc.

And I'm betting the words "pitch count" never came out of anyone's mouth that day, either.
