They still lost. He's still an overweight .246 hitter.

Dodgers still 2.5 back (3 in loss column).

Overweight? He looked positively decimated when I saw a shot of him last night.

Marte jacks the first pitch he sees into the seats.

112 batters have done that. Only two have made the Hall of Fame.

26 did it on their first pitch. 19 never hit another home run in their career.

Yes, but Nava will make it three in the Hall.

The number of pitchers on that list impresses me. I remember Jim Bullinger -- a middling spot starter/reliever for the Cubs -- launching one on the first pitch in Busch Memorial, then pitching (and I believe, getting the save) in the nightcap. Several other pitchers: Hoyt Wilhelm, Adam Wainwright, Dave Eiland, Jose Sosa, John Montefusco, Don Rose.

    He was caught stealing home?

The Captain is still on pace to have well over 200 hits this year. Remember the "Trinity" of great AL shortstops? Garciaparra has been retired for years, ARod is a shell of his former, chemically-enhanced self, while Jeter keeps putting up 200 hit seasons.

Funny thing about Bullinger was he spent his first three years in pro ball as your prototypical banjo-hitting shortstop. Saw him in the Eastern League. He had a build like Mark Belanger.

Then he goes to pitching and muscles up in his first game in the majors.

Was first and third. McCutchen got hung up on a pickoff throw at first, and Marte tried to score during rundown and was gunned out.

  11. With Lance Berkman, Miguel Tejada and Carlos Lee gone, who can the Astros find to fill their obligatory "2004 All-Star Team" roster spot?

  12. Not that this matters, but the Pirates had the exact same situation against the Cubs a couple of days ago, I think it was in the third game of the series, and the announce team kept mentioning they have been working on that play where guys at first gets hung up, allowing the runner at third to break. They didn't do it against the Cubs, but that play was on against the Astros. who knows, maybe the Astros were listening to the game on their MLB ap. :)
