Werth, two months. Morse, two months, Zimmerman, three weeks. Storen, half the season. Desmond, a month-plus. Ramos, virtually the entire season. Washington will not play one game the whole season where the projected starting eight position players are out there together.

The Nats have had a buttload of injuries and they've survived for two reasons: outstanding pitching and having enough decent players to plug the gaps. Lombo is included in that group. He's played some third (surprisingly well), some second, some left. He's the emergency catcher. You need guys like him. I think we're all actually on the same page. No one has said he's a standout as an everyday player.

If there was ever a team that needed an emergency catcher, that would be the one.

    You brought wealth up.

Just because the owners have money, it does mean they are going to spend all this money. If the Nats are costing them $100 mil a year in 2017, no matter how deep the pockets are, some people might slow down the spending.

The bottom line is the Zimmerman and Werth contracts might cost them a player or two in free agency.

Now Sonner will do his best Sports Junkie impression.

Do you know of the owners of the Pirates, Twins and Mariners are listed in the top 10 wealthiest owners in baseball?

And what context was your sig taken? Do you even remember? What was I commenting on? Or did you think it would be "money" to take a "hurtin" quote out of a "nubbin" context? And I pretty sure your sigs violate the rules of these boards, but we all know how flexible those rules can be.

Not for nothing, Devil, but the Nats' payroll is most likely gonna be a lot more than $100 million by 2017 -- and I think the Lerners are gonna be OK with that because they know you have to pay for elite-level talent.

Hopefully the ownership is proactive like the Indians were when they locked up Manny, Lofton and Co. before they ever hit the open market.

Keeping a core of Strasburg, Gonzalez, Zimmermann, Zimmerman, Harper, Morse, Werth, Desmond and Espinosa together won't be cheap. But there's no reason they won't have the revenue to do it -- DC fans have always turned out for a winning team and it's far from a small market.

Clippard, a month or two back, said something to the effect of "We're going to be pretty expensive soon." after a win. It was in a joking manner, but there's a lot of truth to that.

Sorry, though. I just can't spend much time discussing the Nats payroll in 2014. Got a pennant race to follow.

For real. Don't worry about what your payroll is gonna be in two years or five. If you win the World Series this year, it won't matter.

Love it. The soon-to-be banned first-to-third pickoff move actually worked, for maybe the first time ever.
Jonathan Papelbon tried it, caught Carlos Beltran halfway between first and second and threw him out at second for the final out of the game. Phils beat the Cardinals, 3-1.
As a bonus, the play was set up because Allen Craig failed to score from second on a two-out single to deep right field. I won't say the Cards gave one away, but they certainly botched the ninth inning about as bad as it could be botched.
