  1. Quick question - Red Sox placed Josh Beckett on waivers, the chances of a team picking up his contract are slim, but if someone does pick him up - does that mean that Beckett loses his 10/5 protection? My understanding is he has no choice but to go to the team that picks him up. He could quit I guess but that would be just as good a result for the Red Sox - they would be rid of him and his contract either way.

If he does lose his no trade protection - wouldn't that make him somewhat attractive to a team willing to take a risk? A team like the Oakland A's for example. Billy Beane just lost Bartolo Colon and he must know that Beckett's numbers are bad but his peripheral numbers are all that discouraging (especially his HR rate). Plus if Beckett bounces back then the A's have a nice chip at next year's trading deadline.

Billy Beane (or anyone else) willingly getting stuck with $35 million from now through '14 for a washed-up fatty? Yeah, I don't think so.

Is Todd Frazier eligible for NL Rookie of the Year?

It was sweet but this is the third sweep in the season series, first the Giants swept the Dodgers with 3 straight shutouts, then the Dodgers returned the favor (in SF), and now this. The beautiful thing is this latest one was late in season and on road, Giants recovering after Melky fiasco, and Lincecum was part of it. Giants may have found a SS too, Arias (who has a sweet glove) is hitting .280, which feels like .400 after watching Tejada hit .190 last year (then Orlando Cabrera)!

    From Davey Johnson:

"It's funny; there wasn't anything said when we shut down Zimmermann," Johnson said.

Um, yeah Davey. Don't you think your team's place in the standings has something to do with that?

Agreed. If the Nationals were way out of contention, it wouldn't be nearly as big a deal. The Mets shut down Carlos Santana and I don't think anyone's talked about it, have they?

I think it was Tito Santanna they shut down.

    I don't think so.
There was an interesting story from his high school days. His mom was the softball coach at the school. Both teams had road games at the same place, but the fields were not near each other. Tyler was throwing a no-hitter. Mom was trying to keep track via cell phone while coaching her game. As soon as her game ended, she ran across the campus to catch the end of the game in which her son threw a no-hitter.

Rick Martel was DFA'd. He eventually embarked on a career as a model. Strike With Force!
