Gonzalez and Beckett didn't. They were both claimed.

Why would anyone put in a claim for either Crawford or Beckett based on their production and contract?

Loney's really the only other one who has to clear, and he's been abysmal. And no one's going to claim Punto either.

    It's a perfect storm.

yeah, but the fact that jeter obviously is juicing this year is going to cost him a LOT of votes.

By taking on all those contracts, the Dodgers could be the Phillies in two years in terms of payroll nightmares. They better win it all this year.

I'm wondering if, after years of operating with his hands tied behind his back by The Parking Lot Attendant [/tjsimers], Coletti is going to the opposite extreme in this one? I don't know if it improves the Dodgers that much, but it sure helps the Red Sox.

Meanwhile, Giants win fifth straight Friday night vs. Braves, in case no one noticed. 7-2 post Melky. (quick, someone stop me before I get all Manky ...).

This point last year the Red Sox were serious contenders for the World Series now they are gutting the team and Bobby V is their manager.

    Holy fuck.

That was a short deal with Satan or someone started managing The Curse again.

Han San, I don't think it improves the Red Sox at all. It makes them a less expensive mediocre team to own, but that's about all. Although it's the worst season of his career, Gonzalez was still their best hitter. I sure don't understand why the Dodgers did this, however. Why not just demand Gonzalez and let it go at that?

Didn't the Sox say the Dodgers could only have Gonzalez if they took the other two? It read like a bit of an NBA trade to me.

We might be on the same line of thinking. For Boston, it's addition by subtraction. But LA is seeking answers somewhere and almost looks like it's going the quick fix route. Remember they claimed Cliff Lee earlier in the month, but couldn't get a deal done. Is Gonzalez a free agent at the end of the season? Is it possible it's prelude to a true blockbuster at the winter meetings?

Which makes no sense for the second-richest team in a league without a salary cap.

Gonzalez is on a long-term extension he signed after being traded to Boston.

Because that's how Manky looks at things.

I get wanting Gonzalez and that contract.

I get wanting Beckett, hoping the move to the NL East, a contender and just two years left on the deal.

But if the Red Sox were going to force me to take Crawford to get the other two, I sure as hell would make them pay more than two million a year. Just Beckett and Crawford alone have 135 million due them. Boston would glady eat more to get rid of them
