Mauer is overrated. Right now, the MLB player with the most similar career is Jason Kendall. And if he switches to 1B/DH he will have less value. Essentially he would be Hal Morris. How many years did he last on the HOF ballot?

According to baseballreference.com, Mickey Cochrane is the most similar player to Mauer through age 28. No. 8 on that list? Derek Jeter.

Mauer and Jeter do play different positions. Mauer is primarily a catcher, which is more demanding than shortstop. Mauer is also a much better defensive catcher than Jeter ever was a defensive shortstop.

You know, I was thinking that there is no comparison between the two when you look at their careers. Mauer was vastly superior in 2009, but that was it. Now, I'm starting to think the only thing Jeter has on Mauer is the good fortune to play on better teams. Thanks for turning me around on that, Manky.

Mauer has played in three playoff series with the Twins. He's managed just one extra base hit in his playoff career, and in all three series the Twins were swept. Two of those losses were to New York, the other was to Oakland in the only series they won in the Billy Bean era.
