I'm sure the Reds don't mind if the Nationals shut down Strasburg.

Interesting game tonight for the Tigers with Verlander going against the White Sox golden boy Sale. A tie for first. Juicy drama.

Braves with a 5-run ninth against Papelbon to win 8-7. Prado with a 2-run bad-hop single and Chipper Jones with a three-run walk-off homer, all with two outs.

I took my kids to Citifield to see him against Santana early in the season. Freezing, but a great time - they did a nice job on the stadium.

The Astros are the first team eliminated from the postseason. But they won't match the suck of the '62 Mets after winning their 41st game Saturday.

Is there a medical reason why the Nationals wouldn't shut Strasburg down earlier in the regular season so he'd have playoff starts. The Braves' stumble is making this unlikely, but suppose Washington is one of the two wild cards? A one-game playoff and you've already tossed your best pitcher on the discard pile? (for highly justifiable, if not convincing to me, reasons). They have other excellent pitchers, but to willfully chop your best one out of the postseason strikes me as odd.

I just hate the whole goddamn thing. It's antithetical to what sports are all about.

So he's coming off TJ surgery and the idea is to save him for ... what exactly?

Save him for a pennant race? You're in one. Save him for some future playoff that may never happen again? You're solidly in the playoffs now.

It might be one of the worst cases of over-thinking it and losing the plot that I've seen. I have nothing against the Nats at all, but I really hope that this comes back to bite them squarely in the ass.

It's about saving the player, not the team. It was simply about the team you pitch him and worry about the consequences later.

You play to win the game. You play baseball to win the World Series.

The only way this doesn't get second-guessed for the rest of time is if the Nationals win the World Series this year.

Players are there to help teams win. Sneak is right. The Nats better win it all anyway or they will hear about this for a long time.

I thought you were the big proponent of player safety on this board? They feel they are jeopardizing his long term future by pitching him. I understand Nats fans being upset but shouldn't the organization be applauded for looking out for the players long term health?

Oh no, not second guessed. If they are going to be second-guessed, then they totally should not do what they have decided is the smartest course of action. That's a fate worse than death.
