Perhaps, but the loss of Markakis is a bigger deal than a single game.

Manky brought "fading" into this discussion when he was talking about Trout. The Yankees' fade is more significant than Trout's. Although Trout's been at about .260 for a month, he's still getting on and scoring runs. Tonight, he homered off Verlander in the first and ended the game with another leaping above the wall catch.
He also retook the AL batting lead from Cabrera, .329 to .328.

As for "baseball's toughest division," the AL West and AL East are pretty much even and you could make a case for the AL West being tougher since its worst team -- Seattle -- is better than the two worst teams in the AL East -- Boston and Toronto. Texas has the best record. Oakland, LAA, NYY, Baltimore and TB are all about the same.

Trout isn't fading, he's just regressing to the mean. He went for a long time this season where everything he touched fell for a hit. And he's still got some room for more regression, a .381 BABIP isn't easy to maintain for just about anyone.

Even then, he'll still be an awesome player. He's just not a .350+ hitter.

Not that I feel badly for the Yankees, but boy did Jerry Meals hose them on that last play at first. Not as brutal as the 19-inning gong show from last season, but still terrible.

    So is Sabathia's regression.

Hey OOP! How about those budgetary Orioles sharing the AL East lead with the Yankees and those billion dollar Red Sox bringing up the rear in last place?

    *whistles and walks away*
