I hope they get in. Braun got a raw deal I believe he was clean.

oh mankster, you must not have ever been around the game all that much, because that's what it's all about: comparing the kids to the legends ... only that's usually unfair only when they come up. now that trout is so far into the season, we can see that he's actually beyond where mantle was at this point in his career.
another thing that is striking is that he far trumps jeter offensively at this point, and since jeter was an average at best defender, if not less, we all have to wonder if his overall value isn't going to be something way higher than jeter's in the bigger scheme.
i mean, we get your schtick, dude. honestly, i laud you and your efforts. but to say jeter was anything more than passible in the field is like saying my ass doesn't smell all that bad on 110-degree days.

    hugs - tomas

We'll have to agree to disagree about Jeter's defense. Although the pitchers that he's played with have never complained about it and opposing managers continue to rate him highly.

  5. Thanks. He looks like he's 25 again. It's an absolute joy to watch, I grew up watching Derek Jeter and I'm just so glad I'm getting to see at least one more Jeter-ian season before he starts going downhill

Two Jetes sock puppets? As if September baseball wasn't exciting enough ...

Pujols did not look uncomfy when he smashed that ball in the ninth. But I digress ...

I'm reminded a bit of some of the Angels' teams in the 70s and 80s, when Autry kept trying to buy pennants. Unlike high school algebra, the sum of the parts does not equal the sum of the whole. And are exit orders awaiting Scioscia?

As for Oakland, I'll happily allow the sabrmetricians handle that one, since I'm at a loss. But it sure makes Lew Wolff's small-market blues sound like a bad karaoke act on a Saturday night.

His nickname from high school -- The Mickey Mantle of Millville. Very likeable kid and great player. Where is Manky Trout.

He said Pujols looked uncomfortable in the spring not for the entire season. Whatever the reason, he was pretty lousy the first couple of months of the season.

Don't mind the haters. "Jeter-ian" -- I like that, sort of like Ruthian, and only fitting for the Babe Ruth of our time. People, including many cynics on this baseball thread, have been predicting his "inevitable" decline for years so I'm happy for him, as well. I think he can play until he's 50.

Speaking of 50, do you think The Rocket will join the Astros? And how do you feel about Suzyn Waldman?

Outstanding Grantland piece by Rany Jazayerli on the evolution of starting pitcher usage and arguing against what the Nationals are doing with Strasburg.

    Here's the nut:
