    At this point, I think we can all agree: Ian Desmond > Derek Jeter.

    Well, that's certainly been my take on it.

    Let's see:

    Showalter took the Yankees to playoffs in 1995 after picking up the remains of Stump Merrill, then retread Torre comes in, wins 4 titles and becomes a HOF'er;

    Showalter shows the D'Backs how to tie their shoelaces and tuck in their shirts, then Brenly comes in and wins; now

    Showalter has the Orioles on the verge of the playoffs; what retread comes aboard in '13 and swoops up a title, Art Howe? Tony Pena? I got it, Fregosi needs a title. He was a former C just like Torre.

    Hes Marty Schottenheimer, but better. If I owned a team that sucked I'd offer him a blank check.

    Sounds good but I'll agree with his call. Unless you can list a few World Series teams that lost their No. 1 pitcher in September and didn't have him for the postseason.

    Didn't really think about it from that perspective, but you're right. Hope it doesn't happen again.

    Don't get me wrong, from a baseball POV, I respect Showalter for getting those dreadful franchises to turn the corner; I mean the Orioles in contention? Really? Yankees with Steinbrenner?

    I actually am rooting for him to lose Gm. 7 in SF :)

    A lot of that had to do with Showalter being a non-trustworthy type and rubbing people the wrong way. When he was with the Yankees some of the media tried to make it like he and Mattingly were boys because they played together for a little bit in the minors. They weren't buddies. Some also tried to piss on Torre when he was hired. Showalter knows baseball but sometimes being a people person is important. If it was basketball he'd probably be very successful as a college coach not as much in the NBA.

    - Chris Carpenter went 15-5 for the Cardinals in 2004 but missed the World Series due to injury. They lost.

    - Bobby Ojeda wasn't a No. 1, but he did win 11 games for the Mets in 1988 and missed the NLCS due to injury. They lost. Same year, John Tudor was acquired by the Dodgers at the trade deadline but was limited to 1.1 IP in the World Series due to injury. (They had Hershiser.)

    - Hall of Famer Rollie Fingers saved 29 games for the Brewers in 1982 but missed the World Series due to injury. They lost.

    Going way back:

    - Hall of Famer Red Faber won 11 games for the White Sox in 1919 but missed the World Series because of complications from the flu epidemic, plus injuries. (And who knows how that Series would have been different if he was available?)

    - The most famous example, of course: Hall of Famer Rube Waddell went 27-10 for the A's in 1905 but missed the World Series after reportedly getting in a wrestling match on a train late in the season. They lost.

    Pointing out that he's full if it while still occasionally amusing myself by proving it = batshit?

    Did you ever think that the fact that you find yourself agreeing with him just shows that you are one of the Yankee fans that he is making fun of with his schtick?
