Dear Recovering: Take it from a teenage fan of the '64 Phillies. It hurts like hell when a team that played way over its head for most of a season has the law of averages fall on top of it in September. But eventually, you'll feel better when you recognize that's what happened.

I don't think I was insulting Trout by saying he could wind up having a career similar to Matt Lawton.

Lawton played in the big leagues 12 seasons, very few players last longer than that. They are also similar in that Lawton was a player that could steal bases and had some pop in his bat. He also hit for a high average his first season (.317) and never really came close to matching that again. Again I'm not saying Trout will be a bust but I think writers should wait a season or three before considering him for MVP. Trout having an MVP trophy might look bad a few years down the road if he doesn't continue to produce.

The 500,000th error in the history of MLB should happen sometime tomorrow.

Fred Lynn and Ichiro Suzuki agree completely.
Seriously, what brand of bath salts do you smoke before you come here? If he's the best player in the league, and on a contending team, he deserves consideration. I don't care if the guy is in his first season or his 20th.

Did he steal on his own or was that Buck The Great's call?

Listening to Vin Scully call the Dodgers-Cardinals game right now.
He's great and an icon and all that, but I can just picture a day where Vin launches into a dark, rambling tale of the time he killed a hooker and buried her in the desert outside Vegas back in '68.

And now let me tell you about the song I wrote after I killed a drifter to get an erection: Forever in Blue Jeans!

Craig Kimbrel struck out the side in the top of the 9th tonight on 10 pitches — all strikes.

Now I have this picture of Vin Scully doing it during his iconic moments.

"Ground ball to first ... BEHIND THE BAG! It gets through Buckner and the Mets win it!

(long pause to capture the moment)

"I haven't experienced anything that spectacular since I caved some bitch's skull in with a ball peen hammer and simultaneously ejaculated in my dungarees ... Let's throw it down to Bob Costas!"

"In a year that has been so improbable, the IMPOSSIBLE has happened!"

    (long pause)

"In the interest of full disclosure, I must admit I've used that line before ...

"I told Richard Ramirez that back when he and I had a little adventure in the Valley a few years back. He claimed that Satan told him that a human being could not be stabbed 666 times without a losing a limb or having their body turned into an indistinguishable bloody mess.

"I told the Night Stalker that Satan was, by his very nature, a liar, and yes, it could, and indeed, has, been done. Well, ole Richard didn't believe me, but he was a sporting sort, so he give it the ole college try and began a stabbin' and a slashin'.

"Sure enough, that old lady's corpse stayed whole. So I teased Richard a little bit with that old chestnut of a line. He lost a bet too. I made him draw a pentagram on a Dodger dog and worship it for a week as tribute to my master Satan. ...

"Marv Albert is with A's manager Tony LaRussa ..."
