It makes sense to celebrate some too. You've just gone through a 162-game season (well, not quite 162 yet), so it's good to let it all hang out for a day.

I was starting to panic a little bit about my beloved O's until the old man (Thome), the kid (Machado) and the in-between (Davis) all went yard to give Baltimore a 6-2 lead.

    AP fail:

If someone reaches base, it ain't a perfect inning. It might have been damned impressive, but it wasn't perfect.

I think it was a reaction to both last year's collapse and it being Chipper Jones' last year.

That said, I think champagne celebrations should be reserved for winning the World Series (though winning the pennant is OK too, I guess). Anything less than that is kinda dumb.

You see it in other sports, too. Alabama got its players three rings in 2009 — one for winning the national championship, one for the SEC and one for the the SEC West.

Really, an SEC West championship ring? You beat five other teams.

No problem with what the Braves did - a little relief after last year, Chipper's final year, maybe their last chance at champagne. Although I don't think the NL East is over yet, most seem to think it is such a longshot that the Braves didn't want to wait for something that may not happen. They're in - power to them.

Nats' magic number is 4 and it isn't going to come easy. Atlanta may not lose again.

Then they'd better hope the Nats go 2-5 the rest of the way.

As a Braves fan, I'd just as soon take the wild card and take my chances with Medlen. Worst-case scenario would be tying for the division, playing a one-game division playoff on Thursday and losing, and then having to play the wild-card game Friday. If you win that, you start the NLDS with your third-best pitcher.

Adam Greenberg, beaned in the head in 2005 in his only MLB PA, finally whined enough to get a pity PA from an MLB team, the Marlins.

And we're four Cubs losses away from next week's Cubs-Astros series being the first meeting in 50 years between two teams that have already lost 100 games.

Last time was the Cubs and Mets in the final weekend of the 1962 season.

Oh, and an announced crowd of 18,000 and change wandered into Minute Maid last night to watch the final National League game in Houston.
