That's just fucking awesome and I swear I didn't write it.

And the Jacksonville airport might want to order some more beer.

    Baltimore is not burning.

However, a fire on the Orioles plane forced an emergency landing in Jacksonville.

The 86 Mets think the Orioles need to learn how to party on a plane

Really? Sounded like a free-basing accident to me.

So, who do we like as division champs in the AL East and West or as the second wild card in the NL? I figure the AL Central and NL East would require pretty epic meltdowns to change.

The A's are 47-31 at home and have 14 walk-off wins. I think they can go get it.

Yankees will probably win the East by a game ... with a sweep of Boston and the O's winning two of three in Tampa.

The tiebreaker for the wild card in terms of who hosts is head-to-head, right? Baltimore loses to both Oakland and Texas in that regard. From what I can tell, the O's absolutely clinch the home game by winning two against Tampa. Texas is only the wild card if it gets swept in Oakland, and Baltimore would have a better record with 94 wins to 93 for Texas. If Oakland is the wild card, the best it can get to is 93 wins.

I used to think that going into the playoffs hot was ideal (Rockies 2007, Giants 2010) but then I always remember how in 2000(?) Yankees lost 9 straight to close out the year then won it all.

Don't discount the Bosox, they've got a great chance to spoil the Yankees' season and I always remember Joe Morgan in '82 spoiling the Dodgers' season. Rivals are the ideal spoilers. Then again the Bosox with Valentine are horrible (but Bucholz is 11-7.)

The Red Sox rearranged their rotation for this series, after laying down most of the last two months.

Personally I loved this quote from Bobby V — “Pedroia’s not available to play” but wouldn’t go into specifics on the second baseman. “God I’d hate to give away secrets like that. The enemy will then be apprised of the situation.”

hey Bobby, there's three games left in the season. Your team sucks ass. Once the lineup is posted and he's not in it, it's not going to matter. The Yankees aren't suddenly rearranging their pitching if they know WHY Pedroia's out.

What do you think of the author's arguments? Are his criticisms fair? Remember, this is not about what you think of WAR itself, but about the points the author makes in his article.

One of the sportswriters attacking WAR is Bill Madden whose article is linked in the link above. According to Madden saber-types are attacking R.A. Dickey's Cy Young Award candidacy. Who are these saber-types? I know many disagree with Cabrera as MVP but I haven't really read any articles about Dickey not being a worthy CYA candidate.

Here is what Madden said about Cabrera:

Is Cabrera really having one of the greatest offensive season in history? Really Bill Madden. Since when is a .325 BA, 43 HR, 136 RBI one of the greatest season in baseball history? That is asinine. Albert Pujols had this kind of season every season for 10 years. Shoot, in 2005 Derrek Lee hit .335/46 HR/107 RBI and no one called Lee's season one of baseball history's greatest seasons.
