Derrek Lee also played Gold Glove-caliber defense at first.

    Fuck Rafael Furcal.

Yankees put up seven so far in the 2nd inning.

Hopefully the Red Sox roll over.

And, I don't want to hear any shit when CC "pitches to the score" and the Yankees win 9-6.

** 4th HR of the inning makes it 9-0. **

    Very solid point.

.325 may not win the batting title this year, the way Mauer keeps going. But it also would be the lowest average to win the AL batting title since Rod Carew's .318 in 1972.

So it's not that historic. He just happens to be in the right league in the right season.

Same reason that the Angels not making the playoffs and the Tigers making the playoffs this year is mostly arbitrary, because of the way the divisions are set up. Why should anyone give extra points to Cabrera when the Angels have a better record?

If the Rangers don't get this one tonight, the collar starts to get a little tight and the A's could very well do it.

Imagine the shitstorm if Texas loses 3 straight and then loses the one-game playoff.

LOL -- Miguel Cabrera is going to win the first Triple Crown in 45 years and he isn't having all that great a year. Jesus, you guys can make yourselves think anything.

If he doesn't win the Triple Crown, is it still historic? Kemp had virtually the same season last year.

If he gets overtaken by Mauer by one point in BA and Hamilton by one HR, and only leads in one category, is it historic then?

He's overwhelmingly one of the top two players in the American League this season. Does that make this one of the greatest seasons in baseball history, as Madden claims?

Sure. Actually you are the one who put the word historic out there, and if he gets the Triple Crown it is very much that based on what history is.

And yeah, anyone who goes tops or second across the board had one of the great seasons. Maybe it's harder to hit this year. Unless everyone else is trying to get Cabrera the Triple Crown.

Can we make a distinction between historic and great?

    That's a wise move.

Memo to Ron Washington: Rent, don't buy? But all I got is he's been totally outmanaged in the last two World Series' by Bochy and LaRussa.
