A Bay Area World Series, against the backdrop of the Cold War regarding the A's desire to move to San Jose, would be spectacular. The owners can't even pretend to like each other these days.

Work a cow-milking contest into this and you're on to something.

Monday evening the Rangers had the best record in the AL. Friday night their season could be over.

If I was Wash, I'd be shitting diamonds too.

Since the governor won't have another governor to bet against, perhaps before the Series, the team owners agree to a friendly wager: The winner of the Series gets the rights to San Jose.

One more time, if New York, Baltimore and either Oakland or Texas all finish with the same record, how does that get sorted out?

If Mike Trout is the best outfielder in baseball, why do the Angels move him to LF when Bourjos comes into the game? Trout is, by any standards, a very good defensive player, but don't you leave the best outfielder in baseball in CF?

That's my biggest qualm with the advanced-stat arguments that Trout is miles ahead of Cabrera. They are giving him a ton of value (over 2 WAR) for defense, and you can't even definitely say he's the best young outfielder on his own team.

On the field, in a vacuum, I think Trout's been a little better, because there *is* a defensive edge and there's a large baserunning edge. In context, with Cabrera outhitting him by a big margin down the stretch, when teams have much less margin for error, I think Cabrera edges it for MVP. Not going to lose a second of sleep if Trout wins, though.

(There's also the fact that, if Mike Trout had spent the whole season in Triple-A, the Angels had Bourjos. If Cabrera spent the whole season ... in other circumstances, the Tigers had Brandon Inge, Ryan Raburn, Danny Worth, Don Kelly and Ramon Santiago. Which is worse than having nothing at all.)

Yankees-Orioles will play a one-game playoff for the AL East and that record counts in the regular season standings so that's how it get sorted out.

Yankees and Baltimore play on Thursday. Winner wins the division and finishes with the #1 seed, because the game counts as a regular-season game. Loser hosts the wild-card game on Friday. AL East winner plays the wild-card winner. AL West winner plays the Tigers.
