Did I mess that up? Shit, I was watching the A's and then just flipped over for the ninth inning. I could have sworn it was Posey trying to gun down Gordon so I assumed he had been there the whole game. But now I see the box score shows he was at first. Maybe I just thought it was Posey and it was Sanchez, one wears 28 and one wears 29.

So, never mind. And fuck that noise about him not catching those guys. They are a far better offensive team when he is behind the plate and who gives a shit what Barry Zito's feelings are.

Heard Tom Verducci on Bay Area radio today and he had an interesting stat for all of us considering playoff rotations and matchups. I can't remember if he said it was just last year or if it's over a longer span, but there were more runs per game in the playoffs than there were during the regular season. So the idea that two great starters can dominate a five-game series is something of an anachronism at best.

No, but your post above was a bit misleading. Plenty of teams go more out of their shortstops than the Rockies did out of Troy Tulowitzki this year, but that wasn't a good bet before the season, either.

STL Lohse vs. ATL Medlen on Friday.

I expect Larry Jones & Co. to advance to the NLDS, although I'd be happy with the reverse.

Ryan Dempster on the mound in a pressure situation?

Congratulations to the 2012 AL West champion A's.

Braves beat the Pirates 4-0. Chipper Jones singles as a pinch-hitter in his only at-bat, finishes with a career slash line (AVG/OBP/SLG) of .303/.401/.529.

Ty Cobb, Stan Musial, Mel Ott, Babe Ruth, Frank Thomas and Ted Williams are the only other players to retire with a .300/.400/.500 slash line.

Ryan Dempster is walking out to the mound in Oakland as I speak. The funeral for the Rangers is now under way.
