Nats just called up heavy-hitting Tyler Moore from AAA. DeRosa goes to the DL (thank God).

Harper was awesome last night. He pretty much did it all, including wowing everyone with whatever the fuck that was on top of his head.

I echo what was already said...be excited, Moddy.

His second halves, if I recall, don't seem to match up with his first halves.

After the at-bat I saw, Harper takes off his helmet. Keep in mind this is a small screen and I'm looking over someone's shoulder. So I asked Rizzo: He rocking a mohawk?

And Rizzo said, "Who knows what is going on up there?"

I'm pretty sure he was talking about the haircut!!

I have not heard this term used in a long time, but is Harper a flake?

Apparently, it's a "faux hawk." Typical mohawk without shaving the sides. When I googled the term, a picture of David Beckham popped up. Recently, someone asked Harper about why he wears a certain hat or why he wears it a certain way. Something like that. His response: Because Kobe and Beckham do.

As long as he hits, throws, and runs like he did last night, he can rock whatever he wants on his dome.

Harper is light years ahead of RG3 in the hat-wearing department.

Yeah, Kobe's a role model. Yup.

    For douchery.

That was my thought. Not that that little move was a big deal, but it seems to be part of a developing trend of douchiness with the kid.

I want to like Harper, particularly since he's on my fantasy team, but he kind of seems like an asshole.

Ted Williams, Reggie Jackson and Ty Cobb could all be called douchbags as well. I don't think that's a big deal at all in baseball.

The vast majority of the (say) top twenty greatest hitters of all time, excepting the likes of Musial, have had a high percentage of douche in them . . . no two ways about it.

I completely agree. As a baseball fan, though, I would just rather like the guy and be able to root for him to become great.

He's very young and and very talented and very confident. Can he get a little full of himself? Sure. The few times I've met him he's also been extremely polite and obliging, though. He'll make mistakes, on and off the field. But I get the impression he's a good-hearted kid who just wants to play baseball and have fun. Lives and breathes baseball, including history and stats. I see kind of an early Pete Rose-type personality.

The throwing off of the helmet while running is very reminiscent of Rose, as was his sprint to first base on a comebacker to the pitcher in his first at-bat. He's 19 and under the biggest spotlight ever for a baseball phenom. If overt hustling and a bad haircut are his primary faults, he's way ahead of the curve for a teenager with the world at his feet.
