We're worried about Harper being a "flake" and a "douche"?

I guess we're all forgetting Barry Bonds' antics, Mike Piazza's lack of class, Ryan Braun's "Nanananana!!! You screwed up!" presser, and Ken Griffey Jr.'s need to watch and strut every time he hit one over the Kingdome's 310-foot fence in right field.

The standard for douche in baseball has been set. Harper isn't approaching it at this point.

I'm pretty sure if we went back to age 19 and what we liked/thought was cool then, we'd all want to kick our own asses.

You're right. Maybe they're not the same guy. Even in the midst of his decline, Abreu could get on base (lowest OBP in the last 10 years is .352). Wells walked 20 times in 529 plate appearances last season. They both suck but Abreu has been the more productive player.

So now we're criticizing him for tossing aside his helmet when hustling into second? Awesome.

I agree, with the addition that those examples and those brought up by 93Devil show it doesn't matter that a young player an asshole.

I'm afraid my LAT this morning says the game is in the 9th inning.

What's the Nat's record with Harper in the line-up?

Not this year. And I'm relying on a guy who watches every game, including spring training. He hates Wells, but acknowledges that he at least can still hit a ball hard once in a while. Abreu is completely done.

Before this season? I agree completely. Abreu's plate discipline made him the better hitter even as both had declined.

Jeter curing cancer and ending world hunger, all on the same day, all of which has the same chance of happening as Jeter hitting .400.

Well, that point is moot since they released Abreu a couple nights ago.

Indeed. The boy's got some serious catching up to do before he's in the baseball d-bag category.

Not possible. Well, maybe possible - he probably could have done it in 1999 when he hit .349. If he had cut down a bit on his strikeouts and roided up it would have been interesting. PEDs turned Bonds from a .290 hitter to a .370 hitter. So think what it could have done for Jeter, who is 10 years younger than Balco Bonds. Last year I posted a link to an article estimating Jeter's stats if he had roided his entire career, if I find it again I will post it.

Answer to Manky's question about a potentially bigger story: Two White Sox perfect games before April is over.

Gavin Floyd perfect through four right now.
