Rose would also play where the team needed him most.

What "hints"?? Someone on a message board said they can't believe he's hitting .400 without PEDs? Ted Williams had a year where he batted .388 and was almost 40. No one knew what a steroid was then. There is no reason to believe that Jeter would ever cheat.

As does Jeter. The fact that he hasn't played badly enough to get asked to move off SS is not his problem.

And, did the team need Rose at first base in 1984-86 when he hit .240 with ZERO power? You look ridiculous trying to make Rose out to be some great unselfish player.

Manky, this might be too big of a request, but can you please out yourself on the day Jeter does one of the following things...

    Get 4,000 hits
    Retires
Or is a first ballot HOFer

Jeter deserves to know who his biggest supporter is.

I know this is asking a lot, but I think it would be a great gesture on your part.

He's right about Rose. Rose had no buisness playing first base those years.

Without Rose, the Phillies don't win the World Series title in 1980, their first ever. No way. So I am inclined to rate his abilities quite highly. Me and everybody elee, of course. Too bad has was a megalomaniac, and a dumb one, too.

It's counterfactual so there's no way to know, but I'm pretty sure they could have found another first baseman to play mediocre defense and hit for no power.

Pete Rose was great in 1979 and 1981 for the Phillies. But in 1980, he had minus-0.4 WAR, a .706 OPS and the worst all-around numbers of his career to that point. He had a very strong NLCS in a series the Phillies didn't need much help winning, but he was back down to earth for the World Series with five singles, a double and two walks in 26 plate appearances.

Brett already had a pain in the ass.

Actually he was right about the 1980 NLCS. Rose hit .400 and the series went the distance (5 games) but the Phillies had to come back from being down 2 games to 1. They did need help to win that one.

You're right. I was blanking on the old LCS format.
