2012 Pro Wrestling Thread

  1. It's not that Ryback isn't doing what Tensai and/or Broadus couldn't, and I think he's a nice little distraction on the midcard now. My beef is that you would essentially be killing Miz (as if he hasn't been enough times already) for him. If I had to pick who has the better upside, it's Miz in a landslide. I would honestly prefer to see Ryback team up with someone with good mike skills and ring presence to make a run at the tag titles. Maybe it's too late for that, though.

Ryback's character right now doesn't seem to be one that would do well in a tag team. Maybe I'm wrong, though. I do think Miz probably has more long-term upside based on his stronger overall character.

  3. While I would agree mostly about the tag team, I think it COULD work in the right situation. Hell, the Kane/Bryan thing is gaining steam right now and that's a good example of monster/technical wrestling team. They are going at it right now, but they have gone away from trying to kill each other to co-existing and winning. If you can sell a "mutual respect" angle and pair Ryback with, say, a former Nexus team member who is a high-flyer, it may work well enough to strengthen the tag division. They have ruined it by just throwing singles wrestlers together and burying true tag teams. If there is a logic behind teaming Ryback with someone, well, maybe that seems less contrived and more like a buy-able tag team.

Two names that came to mind in terms of fliers (or technical wrestlers) were Justin Gabriel or Tyson Kidd. One of those guys might work. Any other potential names?

Not sure exactly what Cena did to his elbow, but he got it fixed yesterday. From Wrestling Observer/Figure Four Daily.....

An update by WWE on John Cena now lists that he will be out of action two to three weeks after his arthroscopic elbow surgery earlier today.

A time frame for his return is expected to be pinpointed more closely on Thursday when he goes in for a check-up but with nearly six weeks until the Hell in a Cell PPV, his scheduled match with C.M. Punk looks to not be in jeopardy.

EDIT: Another post said it was to remove bone chips. This will let him heal up the ankle issue and other bumps and bruises he's had.

Angle-Trips-Steph was SOLID GOLD, one of MANY arcs during that time period that make me PINE for the Attitude-era level of writing.

I agree it was a great time. Storylines like that helped make the TV product great and must-see TV each week.

I think the plan was for Lawler to be interviewed live in Memphis after his arrival but it ran into some kind of difficulties. Otherwise it was kind of odd, the video of the arrival and then shoving the skype statement in there for what seemed like filler. So they do that and "promote" a next week interview without admitting it all got bungled.

WWE not admitting it screwed up something? Never.

I remember a scene from years back when Trips was in the ring, referred to some past incident, and told everyone to look at the Titantron. Instead, the screen was blank for a minute.

Trips made the joke that, "Hey, what the hell, this is what happens when you do live TV!" Crowd laughed and a few seconds later, the clip showed.

Then there was the famous scene, and I don't remember the exact circumstances, where Austin and Vince were in the ring and the Austin's mic cut out. Austin grabbed the mic and threw it in the audience.

Vince yelled out, "That was a $5,000 microphone!." Austin replied, "And it's a piece of shit."

Then it happened again, and Austin threw a second mic out, as Vince's face dropped.

Months later Jericho tried the same thing on purpose, and got ripped on for it.

I remember the microphone thing. That was just classic stuff.
