2012 Pro Wrestling Thread

Discussion in 'Anything goes' started by Rockbottom, Dec 26, 2011.

  1. I've thought all along that Lesnar is going to get involved here, think I might have mentioned it in this thread a few weeks back. It would make sense for Lesnar to come down and help Punk get the win, setting up a feud with Ryback. Then, Ryback doesn't lose much of his mystique in losing to Punk with Lesnar helping and Ryback can then take down Lesnar and set up as a much more legitimate title contender.

  2. I guess that's fine for the female wrestlers with ability and no personality, but when you have someone like Layla, who had personality that worked so well before, the cool girl with Michelle McCool, why change it?

I saw someone point out an interesting nugget (no offense, Owen Hart):

Goldberg got his big heavyweight title fight, which broke him into the stratosphere in Atlanta.

Ryback is getting his big heavyweight title fight, which could break him into the stratosphere, in Atlanta (albeit, at the arena next door).

Probably just happenstance, but interesting nonetheless with all the Goldberg/Ryback comparisons.

I'm guessing it's merely a coincidence. Goldberg's match with Hogan also was on a live Nitro, which some denizens considered to be a waste of a guaranteed PPV moneymaker. Yet, WCW did it because they wanted to stop the ratings slide against WWF, and they had 45,000 people in the Georgia Dome that night.

Goldberg also had a year's buildup to the match, and had beaten several longtime prominent stars en route to the match (Flair, Hall, I think Sting, although that might have been afterward). Ryback hasn't beaten anyone of main-event caliber, save Miz.

Come on, Eve has plenty of personality - she's the tall one.

Spot of the night goes to Kofi, who legit knocked out Miz with Trouble in Paradise:

    I wouldn't say it's a given, but I definitely wouldn't rule it out.

I just don't see them giving RyBack the belt right now, especially with how Punk has been. One big reason I don't see Punk dropping the strap to RyBack: they never gave RyBack one of the secondary belts, a la Goldberg with the U.S. title.

I was just about to post about this very thing.

Next PPV is Survivor Series. Cena should be back by then.

So, do we see Punk's (hopefully) new stable of "Heyman guys" (Lesnar, Swagger? Someone else?)

against Cena's group of pulled together heroes (Rock (perhaps), Ryback, ?) in a Survivor Series type match with a stipulation for the winner?

Rock would probably not be ready by then -- or did he mention returning at SS? I honestly can't remember.

Just an idea. He usually shows up for the major PPVs, even if he didn't for SummerSlam

This is why he will never be in the main event. Absolute lack of ring awareness leads to a botch that knocks out the IC champ. Hope you like midcard hell, Kofi.

He was at Survivor Series last year, FWIW...plus it could segue into a nice two-month build for the Rumble.
