Agreed. For all the talk about Trips not putting people over, the bigger issue, to me, is that he's still inserting himself in the main event roles, even though, with proper buildup, there are guys who would be able to fill those roles.

Now, due to Nash's inability to get in the ring, Trips may well have been working with Punk at WM and given the role to someone else. But what they should have done is built a guy up for two years after Michaels faced Taker to be the guy this year. Have Michaels get his two matches, then Trips, then the new young lion.

Instead, I think the Punk thing got so huge, Trips had to get involved, drained the life out of it, and it got neutered.

    My bad Boom. Wasn't sure.

  3. Well put. The door was definitely open to build someone like Barrett to make him The Man.

Is Trips putting up anything for WM? I'm guessing not his career, since it's obvious his ego still deems it necessary to shoehorn himself into main event roles. He still brings it on the bigger stage, though. My guess is that he's going to want at least one more title run before becoming WWE overlord.

Question: Comedy in wrestling. Is there a need for it or just a shit way to use mediocre talent?

They've had someone in the comedy role for years. As much as Lance Storm would like it, wrestling can't all be serious business all the time.

It's entertainment. Comedy's an essential part of the mix, be it Santino or Mick Foley.

I don't mind the comedy in wrestling, but it would be nice if they could limit it to guys who clearly have a low peak. The WWE saddles guys like Charlie Haas with comedy stuff, when they can actually wrestle a bit, or Santino, who's in-ring action has been so little I have no idea if he can wrestle or not. And speaking of comedy angles, the Funkasaurus hasn't been on Raw lately, has he?

Supposedly, the rumor was that Vince was concerned with Brodus' in-ring ability. Supposedly, the opponents were complaining about him being a little reckless.

As far as comedy goes, wrestling's always had its characters. Gorgeous George would probably be considered a comedy character today, although back then, he was a major heel.

I'm fine with it, because it's like the circus. You have to have a variety.

The Punk-Bryan match on SmackDown was balls out awesome. If, somewhere down the road, WWE unify its titles once again and end brand extension, I can't think of a more exciting way to do it. Give it to Punk and Bryan, and get out of the way.

Indeed, it was. The last two matches these guys have had on TV has gone a long way to restoring my faith in wrestling. Punk reported on his Twitter feed that he lost a tooth when he took that drop kick in the corner.

  10. For some reason I believe I read something once in which Santino admitted that he's not a very good in-ring wrestler. Apparently his martial arts background doesn't translate so well.

Got bored with the Oscars (which doesn't take much to do, I don't have time to go to movies), so I watched the Bryan/Punk Smackdown match on Youtube.

Another fantastic job by them, and Punk looked like he nearly had his nuts cut off when he was pushed off the top rope to the side of the turnbuckle.

Only thing that sucked is we never had an official decision announced. At least have them say that "Both wrestler's shoulders were pinned, therefore, the referee has ruled a ... DRAW!" (in a Fink voice would be best, as the fans boo).

Also funny how Teddy threw his jacket in Ace's face, only Johnny caught it and threw it back at him.

Good stuff all around, even if I don't care about the umpteenth GM battles.

Tremendous first promo segment with Punk and Jericho.

Too bad the ratings are going to suck for it because Daytona's on.
