I don't think I'd ever grant a full no-trade clause if I were a GM. I'd rather tack on a couple extra million than not be able to move a guy if the right offer comes along.

One of the major reasons behind resigning Lincecum is that the Giants' farm system is still a bit barren after the deals that got SF the titles in 2010 and 2012. Most of the talent was in high-A San Jose last season. The best starting pitching prospect, Crick, is a year away, from what I'm seeing from reliable observers. So you're looking at a rotation of Cain, Bumgarner, Lincecum and Vogelsong/possible FA. And I'm still hoping for a reliable LF.

    1) I don't think it's out of the question that Barry Zito comes back on a very very low-priced deal. Who else is going to want him, San Francisco is the only park where he can pitch. And as a $2 million #5 starter, he isn't bad.

    2) I have to believe Yusmeiro Petit is in the rotation in heavy pencil at least.

Petit looked good at the end (nothing on the line) but faltered at the very end; I'm very worried about Vogelsong, he lost significant velocity and was getting very few swing throughs at the end, however since he was out perhaps he wasn't in good shape at the end of the season.

Zito is unfortunately, done, very done. He's throwing 84 4 seamers.

I think Shin Soo Choo would be a nice fit.

Nationals plan to hire Matt Williams as manager & keep Randy Knorr as bench coach, per Ken Rosenthal on Twitter:

I can get onboard with that.

If you started a team and you had a chance to choose between Kershaw or Verlander, who would you go with? Any reason behind your selection?

Given their age difference, is that even a question? It's Kershaw in a landslide.

Yeah. Seems like a pretty easy choice.

Yeah, at 30 years old, I'm not sure Verlander is even No. 2 anymore. You can make the case for Felix Hernandez (27) and even Stephen Strasburg (25).

Gerrit Cole (23) and Jose Fernandez (21) also would be pretty good choices.
