You're right. Although there would be no earthly reason for anybody to think that, I suppose it's possible someone could follow you there. It's the Cult of OOP.

He didn't respond badly to being switched to 1B in 2008, so I doubt he would get bent out of shape about it now.

I suspect he probably WOULD not be happy at any attempt to move him to full-time DH, which at this point would be stupid (he is an adequate/decent defensive 1B, quite unlike Fielder).

My bet is their ultimate scheme involves Cabrera moving to first, but they are not so hell-bent on it they'll put a replacement-level player in the lineup to make it happen.

Thank you for a response that actually involves some thought.

I wouldn't be so worried about him getting angry about a move to first as much as thinking he might not push his conditioning as hard if he doesn't have to play third any more.

One thing I forgot when I brought this up was that Cabrera had surgery last month, which could really compromise a good bit of his offseason.

The Tigers clearly don't care about defense if you can hit. Cabrera playing third is Exhibit A, Peralta at short Exhibit B.

And I wouldn't get hung up on Castellano's "modest" numbers last year. He was 21 in Triple-A, which is loaded with 30-year-old pitchers with major-league experience.

The '86 Mets might have been the best example of this ever. Howard Johnson at shortstop -- even Kevin Mitchell at short on occasion.

This is not the first time Prince Fielder has been traded for Ian Kinsler. The first came in a 2010 ESPN commercial:

About 2:30 Royals leak "Major Announcement at 4 p.m." That announcement is Jason Vargas for 4 years, $32 million. Either Dayton Moore's an idiot or the Royals get a kick out of trolling the fans.

Chris Young the outfielder to the Mets on a one-year deal pending a physical, per Jon Heyman on Twitter:

Underrated player coming off a bad year, and just the kind of low-risk move teams like the Mets should be making. If all else fails, they can trade him at the deadline for a C-plus prospect.

Rafael Santana. he of the .218 average, started 111 games for them that year. Hojo started 22 and Mitchell started 20. Kevin Elster, as a Sept. callup, started another 9.

Reds think Joey Votto walks too much.

It's like Dusty Baker never left!
