It's still a nice turnaround for a guy who was given up for dead a couple of years ago.

I wouldn't have predicted he's be in the Majors in 2014, let alone on a guaranteed, two-year deal.

He had to be worried about the same thing. So, on a personal level, $22M must be nice.

People need to adjust their expectations, pronto. In this market, that's not reckless at all.

Looks like Doug Fister headed to the Nationals. Not clear who's going to Detroit.

Steven Lombardozzi, Ian Krol and minor-league LHP Robbie Ray headed to Detroit, according to the inter-webs ...

    EDIT: It's confirmed:

Exactly, but the same will happen next year. I think term more than money is the key to free agent contracts.

Someone tell this Nats fanboi why I shouldn't love this.

You should. Tigers fans, on the other hand, should not be happy. I know the Tigers think they had six really good starters, but that doesn't mean you have to dump one of them for such a low price.

It was really stupid. Fister was cost controlled for two more years.

Lombardozzi is a 'gritty gutty' utility-infielder type -- who doesn't play SS.

I'm guessing the Tigers are clearing payroll space for extensions for Max Scherzer and Austin Jackson, to sign a closer (Joe Nathan?) and presumably to make a run at Robinson Cano.

Didn't they just trade for Kinsler? How many 2bs do they need?

Lombo is a great piece - switch hitter, can play nearly anywhere. ... But unless Robbie Ray pans out, I can't see how this was a good deal or Detroit.
