Cano to Mariners not gonna happen, per New York Daily News:

    http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/jay-z-blows-robinson-cano-mariners-bid-sources-article-1.1539636

If this is true and Cano goes back to the Yankees for 9 years/$175 million, Jay Z might have cost Cano about $50 million.

Well, that was an interesting argument nonetheless.
I will henceforth have my antennae out to see if any player admits the state tax influenced his decision.
But I still don't think even baseball players are dumb enough to admit that publicly.

Hiroki Kuroda back to the Yankees for 1 year, $16 million, per Joel Sherman.

They're getting ever-so-close to blowing past that $186 million threshold.

Not so fast on Cano. Jon Heyman says he is "close to a deal" with the Mariners:

Done. 10 years, $240 million, per Enrique Rojas:

$240M for 10 decline years is not what I'd call an effective way to build a franchise.

So Jay-Z and Brodie Van Wagenen weren't overreaching, after all.

It's a cheap headline by old guys to make fun of someone, but Jay-Z is a pretty damn good agent.

    Haha. Jesus. 10/240?

Anyone who's ever questioned Jay-Z's business acumen is a fool. That was true before this, too.

Like I have said many times, I never get caught up in the money. It's the YEARS.

Ten years for a guy who is already 31 is ludicrous. You'd think the Mariners would have known that having faced Albert Pujols 20 times a year for the last two years.

Yankees maxed at 7 years/$175M, per Joel Sherman:
