Really like the Granderson deal for the Mets.

These contracts just reflect the huge increase in cable dollars flowing into baseball. Salaries have always tracked industry revenues.

Hey, I'm right behind ya. I LOVE this time of year. I also can't believe Seattle went so far with the years on Cano.

I think they've pretty much given up on that. With the Red Sox winning the Series, falling attendance because the Wall Street execs don't want to shell out to see Eduardo Nunez throwing one into the stands and YES Network ratings going down the tubes, they know they need to ante up.

Yes, I've pretty much reached the point where no number figure floors me.

Supply and demand. Whatever the market can bear, and the market appears to be able to bear this.

And don't forget what Chris Rock said. "Shaquille O'Neal is rich. The guy who signs Shaquille O'Neal's checks is wealthy."

It was a little surprising to see the Tigers start doing some checkbook-balancing, but I think that was more "boy is this fat fuck not what we expected him to be" than it was "this contract costs too much."

Someone with $240 million is wealthy, too. That's a sum that's very hard to squander. By age 42, Cano should have at least $50 million in securities quietly appreciating income to satisfy the needs of generations of Canos to come.

Yes, that's just what those generations of Iversons are saying today, I'm sure. (I know, I know, less money. Still.) :)

Now rumors swirling around about the Mariners trying to acquire David Price.

That will require major-league ready talent.
The Rays don't settle for less.

The Mariners COULD offer Taijuan Walker, and either Nick Franklin or Mike Zunino, but I doubt they would. Walker was once compared to Dwight Gooden, though I'm not sure if that was just because he's black and throws hard.

    Walker
    Miller
    Zunino
    Some mid-range prospect.
