The Red Sox got 7 1/2 great years and two World Series out of Manny Ramirez's eight-year deal. I'd say that one worked out.

Jeter kept the same level of productivity for at least nine years of his 10-year contract and was still a respectable full-time player in Year 10.

Pujols was still an MVP contender in 2011 at the end of his seven-year, $100 million extension.

I'm sure there are a few others.

The first A-Rod contract? Surly you jest. I believe Texas ended up paying him, after agreeing to pick up a bunch of the money when he was traded, around $42 million a year for the years he was there.

Yeah, the issue isn't the length quite as much as the combo of length and age. Signing Jeter to a ten year deal at age 26 is a risk, but probably one worth taking. Signing Cano to a ten year deal at age 31 is just dumb.

I'm guessing the Yankees plan to move Gardner. He's locked up for another year and could be valuable to a team looking for a good CF at low cost.

Stephen A Smith-bag says that he knows for a fact that if the Yankees would have offered 200M toCano he would have stayed with NY.

I can't see JayZ leaving 40M and 3 years on the table. But I can see Smith-bag doing whatever Jay says to do,

After all the activity this week, it should be a fairly boring winter meetings unless the David Price sweepstakes heat up.

After Choo, Matt Garza is probably the second-biggest name available.

Forgot to ask. The "Cano was never a true Yankee" chorus from Yankee fans must be in full swing by now, right?

With all the new cable TV money coming in, I think there could be a lot of activity. We're putting our own spending caps on teams based on pre-conceived notions when the teams are clearly operating under all new circumstances.

The Giants have no good options in left field and have more money than they know how to spend. I haven't studied names, but I wouldn't be surprised if they traded for someone who is nearing free agency or arbitration.

What are the odds Cano is older than he alleges and the Yankees know it?

I knew the "good riddance" fanboy reaction was coming.
