ESPN says the Yankees turned down a trade of Brett Gardner for Brandon Phillips because they thought the 4 years, $50 million left on his contract was too much for his production.

They've offered Omar Infante 3 years, $24 million.

With Infante available, I agree with the decision not to trade Gardner for Phillips. They're better off trying to sign Infante and perhaps pick flip Gardner for a pitcher.

Joba Chamberlain to the Tigers, 1 year, $2.5 million.

    Well, not quite.

Wilson did enough to be a fourth-round draft pick before they discovered he couldn't make consistent contact. Jordan swooped into Class AA without a whole lot of justification except he was a celebrity.

No, I'm not saying there's anything legitimate about the pick; there's talk that the Rangers might try to talk Wilson into making some PR appearances. But he WAS a baseball player first at one point.

I know all about Wilson's baseball history. But drafting him at this point --- when he's arguably one of the top 5 QBs in the NFL --- is merely a publicity stunt.

The Rangers have a history of this. They drafted Ricky Williams from the Expos in the 1998 Rule 5 draft, after he'd just won the Heisman.

At which point the Yankees went on the 60-day disabled list with a torn Irony.

    That's interesting. I didn't know that.

Why was he on the Expos?

Seattle way, way, way overpaid for Cano. Just like they did for Adrian Beltre, Richie Sexson and some others through the years. Guess they don't learn. They'll come to regret it in a few years.

Other football players who have been drafted by the Rangers: Riley Cooper and Jameis Winston.

Actually, now that I look at it, he was drafted BY the Expos from the Phillies (who had drafted him out of high school). The Expos then traded him to the Rangers.

It doesn't really cost them anything to draft the guy, does it?

Maybe something happens down the road and they've got his rights. Maybe there wasn't anyone they liked any better at that spot.

LOOGY Boone Logan signed a 3-year, $16.5 million contract with the Rockies.

If that sounds like Colorado overpaid, dig this:
