    And by signing "only" a 7-year deal, he's a free agent again at 33, so he's got a chance for one more huge contract.

    Gotta figure he's going to blow out an elbow or shoulder at some point, right? Pay for seven, count on five or six.

    But there's an out clause after 5 years — not sure if it's player or team or mutual — so he could actually be a free agent at age 30.

    As a friend of mine pointed out, under modern pitcher usage patterns, Kershaw is now making roughly $1 million per start (actually about $910K based on 33 starts, but you know what I mean).

    That opt-out clause is huge. Without it, he could have commanded $250m+ easily
