It's great that ESPN credits FOX 4 grafs in, but I still don't see why he has to highlight "sources confirmed" blah blah blah.

This ... is it fear? ... that readers won't come back because you didn't break the story, is that still a legitimate fear or worry?

In the most horrible case of miscasting in TV history, Marlins president David Samson is on the next season of Survivor as part of the "Brains" tribe.

Cliff Robinson is on the Brawn tribe. Maybe he will choke Samson out.

When Tanaka goes 23-1 for the Yankees next year, I hope he gives some of that money back.

I am truly shocked that the Yankees outspent everyone to get Tanaka. I truly expected them to stick firmly to their stated plan to be more fiscally responsible.

But does the Tanaka deal have the Manky seal of approval?

I'm only going to wade into this one because, frankly, OOP, I'm a masochist and love engaging you on subjects you are passionate about.

What part of, "$189 million is a goal, not a mandate" don't you understand?

The Yankees missed the playoffs, had a ton of money coming off the books (including Cano and A-Rod) and had about $125 million committed to 2015 before Tanaka ($147 million assuming he signs).

Getting under $189 million for 2014 was always going to be a tough task, even before A-Rod was suspended. If the Yankees had made the playoffs in 2013, it was conceivable they could have punted on 2014 to get under the luxury tax threshold, but after missing the playoffs, retreating into a financial shell was not a viable option, business wise.

That said, despite their signings so far in the offseason, getting under $189 for 2015 remains viable, even with the signing of Tanaka.

Just having a little fun with the signing. Bottom line is, the Yankees can still just outspend everybody if they want a player badly enough. The self-imposed limit, or goal if you prefer, is meaningless.
