I am not in Boston -- nowhere near there, in fact -- so I don't know this firsthand, but I have heard there is much consternation and hand-wringing among the fan base about the Celtics winning too much. Apparently, they love it when the Celts play a strong game against a really good team like, say, Miami, and lose a close one, but when they beat a not-so-good team, the fans treat it like a loss and are upset.

It's a strange dynamic, to be sure.

That's because Boston sports fans are douchebags.

Are we limiting this to just sports fans in Boston?

I've heard 76ers' fans also being displeased when they win (as they should be).

I have enough self awareness to say the same thing about Philadelphia sports fans.

Guess Ainge screwed up by hiring Stevens one year too soon. Should've made due with a sacrificial lamb for a year, gone 10-72, gotten his franchise lottery pick, and THEN gone after Stevens. Its all about timing...

The thing is, the Celtics roster after they traded Garnett and Pierce wasn't as destitute as say, Philly's is. It has no stars, but it's full of medium level players, leading to a medium record.

Meanwhile the Knicks still have fans, which makes them whore house sized douche bags

Especially because the Eastern Conference is so wretched. Boston sucking hard was predicated upon the Knicks, Nets and Pistons being good teams. All of them have fallen hard, so know winning 35 games gets you into the playoffs and out of the lottery, and winning 35 is a lot easier than expected.

But, yeah, if Ainge really wanted the Celtics to tank, he wouldn't have hired Stevens. If you want an undermanned team to fail, why would you hire a guy who was able to get two undermanned Butler teams to the NCAA championship game?
