After Phoenix destroyed the Clippers last night, I'm starting to believe the Suns are more than a 30-game fluke. Should have put a bunch of money in Vegas on the over, because Phoenix tied the Vegas prediction last night with its 19th win. That backcourt is nasty, and the Morri have played much better than anyone could have expected.

I've gotta be hallucinating -- knicks just beat spurs, 105-101 in SAN ANTONIO!! Anthony ahd shumpert had 27 apiece. shumpert's line:10-13 (6-8. from 3) had winning basket on putback. this guy is one of the most infuriating and erratic players in the league. he's also among the most talented all-around players in the league rare nights like this.

post-script: I truly be trippin' now -- nets topped thunder in oklahoma, too. look out, world, the nix and nuts have awakened from their slumber.

    LOL. ;D ;D ;D ;D

And Toronto beat Indiana New Year's night, and the Heat lost at home last night to Golden State, so the NBA's elite stumbled into 2014.

Speaking of the Raptors, they're not going to break the Indiana-Miami hegemony in the East, but at least they look like they ensure the Atlantic doesn't have a sub-.500 division winner. In making the case for addition by subtraction, Toronto was 6-12 with Rudy Gay, and 9-3 (including wins at Oklahoma City and against Indiana) since trading him. DeMar DeRozen solidly outplayed Paul George the other night.

Curry lit up the Heat, full squad and all, at home, 13-22, 8 3s, 36 and 12 assists; David Lee, though sieve like on D, abused Bosh, wide assortment of post hooks; and Iggy is just a glue guy.

    Warriors are for real.

Second straight year we've had a Rudy Gay addition by subtraction story. Memphis got better by dumping him last year, same thing with Toronto this year.

A fun story so far is the Phoenix Suns, whom many predicted to win 20 games. They've already beaten that 34 games into the season, and they're only two games out of first place.

17 minutes into the game it's OKC 26, Milwaukee 17.

That 14-10 first quarter was the worst quarter of basketball you could see.

The "race" to sign Andrew Bynum.

    http://espn.go.com/blog/marc-stein/post/_/id/1154/race-to-sign-andrew-bynum-slows-down

It says something that teams with championship aspirations -- especially someone like Miami, which needs someone to match up against Roy Hibbert to essentially guarantee another championship season, or Indiana, which needs to make sure Miami can't match up against Hibbert to have a hope at a championship season -- are slow to take the bait. Then again, who wouldn't want to pay $6 million for a center with no knees and a terrible attitude?

If you had Wizards 43, Heat 18 after the 1Q, you won.
