Wait. Didn't the guy Oates claimed that about do something showboat-like as he was scoring in a one-sided game? Ovi's fourth tied a game with 32.4 seconds left. Huge difference

The kid who scored the brilliant goal did nothing wrong as well. Just more old school hockey tradition BS. Ovechkins a beast and it's nice to see some excitement when he scores.

And that was a tense game against what has been a longtime rival. I love Marty St. Louis' game, but as a Caps fan, that dude can't retire soon enough. I think he'd get three points against the Caps if he played them when he was 55.

I'm sure everyone as seen or heard that the Florida Panthers work crew couldn't get the protective cover off the second piece. So what do they do? They just leave it and obstruct the only fans attendance view. I don't know how this franchise survives.

Burke cleans house in Calgary. Peter Griffin, er, Jay Feaster is out along with the assistant GM whose name escapes me.

Well, that didn't take long ;D. Seriously, most folks thought Feaster was a goner from the moment Burke arrived. I like Jay, always been accessible. Hope he lands somewhere. Having said that, Calgary is not a glittering gem on his resume.

Look out, Los Angeles is hot, and doing it with rookie Martin Jones in net. He's been outstanding. The first period of Tuesday's game in Montreal was some of the most energetic play I've seen so far this season. I thought the Leafs out-played the Kings quite a bit last night but some defensive miscues were costly.

That wasn't Brian Burke, it was a random homeless guy who looked like he could be Neil Young and Donald Trump's love child.

He looked better when he accepted the job. Then he took a look at the roster, prospects and other people in the organization. It would probably have aged anyone.

    (And I hope I didn't just jinx a team visiting Calgary tonight … )

I'm a long time Calgary resident who enjoys watching good hockey but that doesn't equate to being a Flames fan. For most of the last 20 years it's been an unwatchable product. If not for a very few astute trades and free agent signings (did I say VERY few?) that provided a spark for a short time the Flames would be even more of a laughing stock, never bad enough to be in the running for a top 5 draft pick but still a lost cause.
The revolving door of bad GM hirelings and one of the worst draft records of any NHL team in the past 20 years has decimated the franchise to the point where no one here cares much. What talk there has been in the last year or 2 is how Iggy deserves to win a Cup (with another team) and what a great stopper Kipper has been. If the GMs that have run the Flames for all these years, since Fletcher actually, had signed some players who could actually score instead of check, Calgary could have easily been a top 4 team in the Western Conference for most of the last 10 years and Kiprusov would still be playing. What they have needed all this time is a balanced and supporting cast up front so Iginla didn't have to carry almost the entire scoring load. It was so obvious....trade picks for proven players!
If Burke can create a vibe for the franchise that attracts players, go for it. He's built contenders that are balanced and perform on the ice. That's exactly what is needed in C-town to promote some hope amongst the faithful and get people talking about maybe having a winner as this place has been a graveyard for offensive players for far too long. He made the Leafs relevant again and can do the same in Calgary.
Burke will liven things up, no doubt, and now Calgarians can talk about something besides the weather!

When is Jonathan Quick supposed to be back for Los Angeles?

I read somewhere the press conference in Calgary was "hastily called" but, man, that pic is hilarious. And some good one-liners, guys.

Mark, I cannot remember either Bob Miller or Jim Fox mentioning Quick's return lately, though I'm sure they or studio folks have and I just missed it. Fact is, the Kings haven't missed him. Scrivens was playing very well and Sutter decided to rest him against the Islanders (IIRC). Now, Scrivens can't get back in. The Jones kid has played outstanding.

On another note since we've discussed Olympic netminders before, early in L.A.'s game at Montreal Fox speculated Price might be manning the net for Canada in Sochi. Then, the Kings blasted him to a seat on the bench. ;D

Burke did a good job in Toronto?
