    Per Steve Whyno, the explanation:

That may be how teams forecheck on the whiteboard, but I don't know of any coach who still has players accellerating the final three strides.

... and Getzlaf is pissed that Kyle Quincey didn't even have a hearing and was given no additional punishment for his cross-check from behind into the boards. The play was nearly identical to the Potter hit on Bonino 2 days earlier that netted Potter a two-game suspension.

Bettman has secretly replaced Shanahan's brain with Colin Campbell's.

I don't normally disagree with Mimico's favourite son but this is utter bullshit.

Getzlaf shouldn't be. Quincey barely touched him, and Getzlaf took off like Bobby Orr in 1970. Even Bob Froese thought it was a bit much.

@ArashMadani: The #Leafs formally announce the seven-year contract extension for captain Dion Phaneuf. Press conference later today.

    Thoughts Leafs fans of SJ?

In the 2013 calendar year, the Chicago Blackhawks played 113 games and were beaten in regulation in only 21 of them. They are pretty good at hockey.

Unless they are at a man disadvantage, in which case they are terrible at hockey.

But, indeed, your larger point stands.

I badly want them to win it this year, partly (mostly?) because I'm a fanboi, but also because I think that this collection of talent deserves to be an iconic sports dynasty.

I'm not too worried about the PK. It'll get better as the year goes along.

I know plenty of people heading to the Winter Classic today, either as fans or media, and it looks like weather could be a huge factor with freezing temps and snow. Estimates are upwards of 50-60,000 Leaf fans will be there and while I am sure it will be a great event to be at, dealing with the cold, snow, the inability to see anything and interminable lines to get back across the border makes my basement the best venue for me to take in today's game. And I can flip over to bowl games in sunny climes to take my mind off the frigid temps outside my door.
