Can't believe anybody blames Tortorella for responding the way he did.

Also, I'm on vacation and not watching TV so I have only seen one short clip, but was that Bieksa taking the draw? From afar it looked like #3.

He stepped up to take the draw to try to prevent the rookie from having to fight

Unfortunately it didn't work, and the rookie's debut lasted two seconds before he was ejected.

The odd thing about the whole thing was that the Flames guy went after the Canucks guy first.

Yup and the Flames head coach was fined $25,000 for his lineup. Torts, on the other hand, got 15 days, which includes six games, for going to the Flames room during the intermission.

Meanwhile, Brian Burke is unscathed, probably cackling aloud at how the NHL is afraid to make a real statement to put an end to this bullshit. I'm sure it was alllllll Hartley's idea, just days after Burke says the team isn't tough enough. Maybe Calgary should start running it's organization like it's 2014 and not 1974.

Fucking garage league. This whole situation goes back to the caveman hockey that still permeates the sport. I love hockey. Love watching the NHL. But this kind of thing is why everyone who isn't a real fan laughs at the league.

I agree with all of this but I couldn't care less that non fans of the league laugh at it. It's a niche sport in the US, always has and always will be.

To no one's surprise, bad blood between Tortorella and Hartley goes back to the mid 90's when they were both coaching in the AHL

It has been 18 1/2 years since the first Tortorella/Hartley encounter and time surely hasn't made the hearts grow fonder. Tortorella does, however, remain steadfast in his commitment to his team.

Hockey players and coaches never forget. Anything.

Spear me when we play against each other in Bantam and I'll get back at you. It may take until we play junior or university hockey against each other but I'll get you.

Why do so many people give a shit what the likes of Peter Gammons and other non-fans think of the NHL?
