So, a committee picks the teams for the playoff?

So this year it would have been?

    Florida State vs. Michigan State
    Auburn vs. Alabama

Everybody is pretty disappointed this morning, having rooted for so much chaos and controversy and now getting a matchup that leaves no questions. BO-RING!

Fitting for the end of the BCS though that we got a couple of months of "ZOMG what if all these teams finish unbeaten?" one last time. They never do all finish unbeaten.

I read they are going to try to avoid rematches as much as possible. I don't believe there needs to be a seeding. If there was a definite pecking order, it sorts of defeats the purpose of the whole thing --- you could just have No. 1 vs. No. 2 and be done with it.

I'm in favor of taking only conference champions, because it eliminates much of the whining. That part is still going to be endless.

I still think it would be Stanford ahead of Michigan State if the playoffs were this year. Strength of schedule isn't close, record against ranked teams isn't close. Yeah, they lost another game, but Stanford beat the same ND team, Mich. State lost to.

Once again, we reach the end of a regular season and there is only one undefeated team in the FBS division. We talked for weeks about all the scenarios with three, four or even five major unbeaten. What about Louisville, Northern Illinois or Fresno State, some said. In the end, it worked itself out, as it most often does.

For all the faults in the format of this sport, it does seem to generally produce the truest, most-deserving champion. No cinderellas like the NCAA basketball tournament or NFL playoffs. Every week matters, whether you are playing your in-state rival or a directional school from down the road.

There will always be a handful of disenters, but I suspect most can embrace a Florida State vs. Auburn championship game, two deserving --- if unlikely --- teams. So, friends, in the end, it all worked out. Again.

I've long been in favor of doing an 8-team tournament with five automatic bids (no Big East) and three at-large spots.

This year it would have been:

The AQs would be: Florida State, Auburn, Michigan State, Stanford and Baylor.

The at large teams would be Bama, Ohio State and South Carolina.

    First round
    FSU vs. South Carolina
    Auburn vs. Ohio State
    Alabama vs. Baylor
    Michigan State vs. Stanford

Jadeveon Clowney pulled over going 110 mph on a South Carolina interstate:

Shit. He was already out of the first round for shutting it down. Now he might not even get drafted.

Our David Jones built a column on that concept. You two agree on seven of the eight teams.
