Decent article in USA Today about him. It really seems like he's learned from his screw ups at Ole Miss and has completely changed. I actually feel bad for the guy, given what a cartoon character he was in the SEC.

If they are interested in guys currently employed elsewhere, I would expect them to keep quiet until the end of the regular season. I suspect we'll know something first week of December.

I keep hearing Kevin Sumlin's name popping up.

Adding to that, I believe Stanford is pretty senior-heavy this year. In other words, there will likely be at least some reloading/rebuilding next season, so Shaw's stock might be at a peak this year.

FWIW Shaw got a big fat long-term extension about this time last year, when his name started coming up, and made it clear in about a hundred different interviews that he is going to be at Stanford for a long long time.

I know, I know. Coaches lie. But he is such a great fit for Stanford and left himself with so little wiggle room that it's going to dent his reputation quite a bit to take off.

I think he will stay. I'm just saying IF he were to leave, his stock would likely be at its peak this season, especially if Stanford wins out.

All things considered I think the Stanford job might be the best in football. You make very good competitive money if you're successful, your players are smart enough to be coachable and obey the law, your kids get an idyllic upbringing in Palo Alto, and the alumni are too haughty to allow themselves the "win or else" mentality. Not much need to be sleeping on the couch in the office and risking a stroke to get those play calls right.

I would agree with that assessment. Any job where you're among the highest paid coaches and you're not worried about being shitcanned the first time you don't win 10 games is an elite job.

Headbutt just fainted and knows why.

Won't happen. Besides, Dave Doeren is busy rebuilding in Raleigh thanks to Debbie. At least that's what the folks wears lots of red polyester want some of us to believe.

I'm still miffed about any assumptions that Jack Del Rio should get the USC job. His run at Jacksonville was decent but was there anything innovative that he accomplished?

The more I see from Orgeron at USC, the more I like the guy. Does he have any realistic shot or do five people ahead of him have to turn down the USC job?

Agree with the statement. Don't have an answer to the question, but hope he gets the shot.

Was there anything innovative that Pete Carroll did during his first two stints in the NFL? Del Rio would be a solid hire. USC just can't afford the embarrassment that it had last time where just about everybody turned the job down before they got to Kiffin.

I tend to think USC wants to make a splashy hire. Sumlin would be a grand slam in LA, but they might have to give him a contract similar to Saban or Meyer to get him. I tend to think if he leaves A&M, it will be for the NFL.
