Apparently Petersen withdrew his name from consideration, which might just mean he found out he wasn't likely to get it.

Rumor has it Sarkisian will take DC Justin Wilcox and D-line coach Tosh Lupoi --- two of his better recruiters --- with him to USC.

Wilcox, who is Dave Wilcox's son, was one of the names mentioned as a possible replacement for Sarkisian.

Also, it appears Orgeron was offered a spot on the new staff but declined. USC players are tweeting he told them he's gone.

Do we have any evidence that he's expressed interest in any of the jobs that have opened up over the last couple years? I know people love to throw his name out - it appears in every coaching search - but I've never heard/read one that that indicated he was actually interested in the jobs.

All Sark did was win with Willingham's players. Oh wait, Willingham wasn't this brilliant coaching mind who was given the shaft by the system?

I could see Orgeron's butt-hurt on that. Step aside for a superstar maybe, but Sarkisian is hardly a superstar and there's not a whole lot of reason to believe he'll be better than O. Hell, he wouldn't be a bad guy for Washington to look at.

Wake Forest has scheduled a 4:15 p.m. news conference to "discuss the football program." I am (as is everyone else) assuming this means Jim Grobe is out.

    Orgeron cannot stay at USC.

Any of us here ever gotten passed over for the "plum job" at the paper or the station? Ever lost out for that columnist gig to someone from the outside?

It hurts. Not "getting fired" hurts but it really hurts.

If Orgeron stays, anytime that something fails on O's watch, the new regime will wonder if he's sabotaging them. This happened at Miami in 1984 when Jimmy Johnson got the job. Half of his staff spent the season backstabbing the head coach and Johnson had to get rid of all of them.

If I'm Haden, cut Big Ed a nice "thank you" check now so that he can get in the mix for a HC job elsewhere.

Is Jim Caldwell coming back, Mike Riley-style?

It's interesting... A couple years ago I read something about how Saban and a couple other SEC coaches have clauses in their contracts that prevent them from going to other schools in the same conference. This was around the time when Dan Mullen was rumored to be a candidate to replace Urban Meyer at UF. Mullen did not have the clause in his contract, but Saban and I think the others were Miles and maybe Spurrier or Meyer.

I think McMurphy wrote it when he was still at CBS.

Apparently, they are giving him a huge raise and I'm sure they wouldn't get in his way if he was a HC candidate.

I know Bobby Petrino had it in his Arkansas contract he couldn't leave for another SEC school, but that was because he was Bobby Petrino.
