"Could intrigue" isn't the same as "would ever consider taking the job." Is there any indication that the latter is true?

As I indicated earlier in the thread, I don't believe anything Schad writes or tweets until it's corroborated, or the story has a double byline.

I wrote that his name surfaced. It certainly doesn't mean he's a serious candidate.

I don't know what to make of Petersen. I've been told that a few of the places where he's been listed as a candidate over the years were not impressed with him when he interviewed and that he could be way over his head if he ever leaves the comforts of Boise. I think SI had something a month or so ago that said the same thing, that he might struggle with the nuances of coaching a major program like USC. Washington might be a better fit, who knows?

For years it seemed like the experts were speculating that he was waiting for the Oregon job, and I don't think he even got an interview. Granted, everybody knew who was getting the job when Kelly left.

Breaking News: Chris Petersen's name "surfaces" anytime a job opening out west opens.

The Seattle beat writer had the same thing. ESPN encourages its writers/reporters to throw shit against the wall and they don't seem to mind that they're often wrong as long as it generates clicks or viewers. It drives me crazy, but it's not going away. Also, to be fair, the worst thing about coaching searches is that everybody lies to you.

I wouldn't even limit it to out west. He's been listed for the possible Texas opening, he was considered a candidate at UF when Muschamp was hired. I seem to remember him being mentioned for the Auburn and Tennessee jobs last year.

    It's absurd.

I know his name surfaced in Wisconsin rumors last year, too.

But this is why I get annoyed by outlets that treat his name surfacing as news. It always surfaces. Every damn time. It's only news if there's any indication he's actually interested.

Pinkel spent 13 years at Washington under Coach James. He hasn't said no.

I know that. I think he spoke at James' funeral.

What I'm saying is I don't think UW would be all that interested in hiring a 64-year-old man (although I see I made a mistake and he would actually only be 62). Anyway, a man in his 60s with no notable recruiting connections on the West Coast and who is already making $3M a year in salary and bonuses isn't a great match.

Unless it's his dream job, and it might be, I don't see it happening.

More than likely, we'll hear about him getting an extension like Mora and Sumlin did.

Jeff Tedford supposedly in the mix at Wyoming. That would be an excellent hire. He rebuilt Cal, just couldn't take them the final step; he'll have much, much better facilities in Laramie than he ever did at Berkeley.

If he's hired his second game would be at Oregon, where he worked before going to Cal. Not the type of opponent the Pokes need to be playing at this point, especially with a Swiss-cheese defense and Mariotta returning (for now) for the Ducks.
