Because coaches are not employed by the NCAA. They are employed by their individual schools, or states, in the case of public schools.

So? NFL coaches aren't employed by the NFL, they're employed by their individual teams. As college sports' sanctioning body, the NCAA could make a rule limiting access to other NCAA schools' coaches during the season the same way it prohibits recruiting other schools' athletes.

Friend from high school who works in Seattle posted this on his Facebook page a little bit ago, so forgive the spelling.

Here's the alleged photo of Saban at SeaTac. It looks so real.

Here's Saban arriving in Tuscaloosa following last year's BCS National Championship Game:

Austin American-Statesmen's Kirk Bohls got UT president on the record about Mack Brown and Nick Saban. Good stuff. (UT prez admitted the contact with Saban's agent happened).

To follow that logic, the NCAA would be powerless to have any rules governing anything. Like all rules, have a vote of membership. Most football schools have been in that boat. I'm just saying there would be good than bad from it.

NFL teams are franchises, so the NFL has some say in how they do business, the same as McDonald's corporate office has some say in how the local franchise owner operates his restaurant.

The NCAA operates as a governing body for as long as the schools it governs say it can.

I think he may well have been holding out for the Oregon job, but he's in a tough spot for that. The last time Oregon hired a head coach from outside the program was Rich Brooks in 1977.

How about moving letter-of-intent day back a month, to the first Wednesday in March? That, theoretically, would let coaches finish the season with the team they're leaving. How much actual recruiting gets done during the holidays anyway?
