I've been to both and actually prefer Fargo. But, hey, to each his own.

    Who gets fired/hired next?

Art Briles would be insane to take the Redskins job. He'd be leaving a $45 million contract extension on the table. Dan Snyder can afford the $5 million buyout, but this has fail written all over it. Steve Spurrier worked out so well, after all.

And the difference in Spurrier's time is while he was getting decent coin in Gainesville, Snyder was paying much more. The pay disparity has been wiped out.

OK, explain why is it that when a coach signs a contract or extension and then turns around and leaves a few weeks/months later, it's considered normal and acceptable?

But when one of us regular working stiffs --- journalist or otherwise --- does the same things, it's considered disloyal and not good?

I've been to both places (granted this was awhile back) and NDSU has much better facilities and a better fan base.

Bohl might have been better off if he stayed at NDSU and brought the program to the MWC.

That said, if he can recruit to Fargo, he can recruit to Laramie.

Mountain West has no interest in NDSU. No matter how good the on-field product is, they're going to be a geographic outlier and a small TV market, plus with the way revenue from the BCS replacement will be distributed starting next year ($x amount per school in a conference, up to 12 schools), non-Power 5 conferences have no incentive to go past 12 members unless they can get enough bang for their buck, which NDSU won't be able to provide.

Better to be a big fish in a small pond than a small fish in a big pond. FCS football gets overlooked in a lot of places. But in places like North Dakota and Montana, it's a big deal. Gets more media coverage than the FBS games played over yonder. NDSU has built a powerhouse program and hopefully can continue to be successful.

    I realize all of this.

But NDSU would be no worse than middle of the pack in MWC football right now. He could contend for a title quicker with the Bison than with the Cowboys.

Bowling Green's Dave Clawson offered the Wake Forest job:

Hope he takes it; he'll be the coach-in-the-bullpen if Butch Jones doesn't work out (or does, and moves on to bigger things) in Knoxville.

I don't buy that. Sure, when they only have to play the one FBS game per season, they can beat damn well over half the teams at that level. But playing multiple games? A whole season of them? At some point, the numbers game is going to overwhelm them, and by the end of the season they and their 63 scholarships would be struggling with teams they might have beaten by two touchdowns in an early season one-off two years ago.

It's really an extension of the whole "fun mid-major team can win a power conference because they beat a power conference team this year!" argument that people do so love around here. I remember they said it about TCU. Well, TCU's in a power conference and they're 6-12 in their first two seasons there.
