In some instances the coach who has just agreed to the extension has not actually signed the contract. It wouldn't surprise me if Sumlin, Mora or Briles haven't officially signed their deals, not because they're waiting for something better to come along, but because their agent is working on the language of the deal or they're waiting on a board of regents to approve the deal, which more often than not (but not always...) is a formality. I covered a coach who agreed to an extension in April and didn't sign it until November.

There was an instance at Colorado where Gary Barnett had an extension waiting to be signed, CU lost 70-3 in the Big 12 title game and he got canned. I think I remember seeing when Alford did something similar when he agreed to an extension weeks before he bolted to UCLA, I think he actually signed the deal.

A&M's BoR is meeting Thursday to approve Sumlin's deal so it's not done yet.

Don't know about Briles.

If you want to see an irrational fan base, go check out the Craig Bohl thread on AnyGivenSaturday.com, a FCS message board. Holy cow, the NDSU fans are hilarious. Included in that thread is Twitter speculation about Wyoming going to the Big 12, which can't be true. Can it?

Probably not, but it's been rumored before. Colorado State and Wyoming were both listed among about 12-15 schools that were mentioned as possible replacements for Utah, Colorado, Nebraska, Missouri and A&M. When I saw the list a couple years ago, it read like the writer just listed every D-I school that made sense geographically.

I think every MWC school believes that the Big 12 is eventually returning to 12 schools and their school is a candidate to join. Colorado State is trying to build a new stadium because if they upgrade facilities they think they can join. I don't think the Big 12 would take any MWC school other than BYU but self delusion is a powerful thing.
