True that. All things considered, definitely the toughest of the Academies. The public's wide-spread disdain of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars has made Army's football recruiting near-impossible, especially if an option is Navy or the Zoomies.

I blame the camouflage uniforms that other teams can now wear.
You can go to Maryland and where cami's? Why go to Army.

From what I recall reading, he didn't want it.

OK, that would make a lot more sense. I just remember seeing that he applied for it after he took his ball and went home from USC.

At the smaller school level, Ken Collums, head coach at Abilene Christian, is catching some buzz.

Collums, whom I know very well, was the guy who hung 93 points on a team in the D-II playoffs a few years back and the school will be a full-time member of the Southland Conference next season.

They've been playing a I-AA schedule for the last couple of seasons as they transition. I wouldn't be surprised to see his name surface for some of the lower-major schools or maybe a place like Arkansas State where they could get a hot young coach, who then wouldn't bail on them after a year.

Speaking of the Southland, Clint Conque left Central Arkansas after 14 seasons for fellow SLC member Stephen F. Austin. A little surprising in it seems a lateral move at best. UCA has outstanding new facilities, but SFA is a better-established FCS power. UCA is just a couple of decades removed from NAIA, after all. Must be the pay.

Proof the myopia is not limited to the big boys: Jackson State fired Rick Comegy.
All the guy did was go 55-35 in eight years, win one SWAC title, make the conference championship game the last two years (JSU lost both) and re-establish the program as one of the most consistent in the league. AD and spokesman held a presser today in which they spewed some gobbledygook about not recruiting enough local talent and declining attendance. Local buzz is he got stabbed in the back by some influential alumni, and the general consensus among the public at large is "WTF?"

Arkansas State set to hire UNC (and former Southern Miss) offensive coordinator Blake Anderson, who probably will get the Maryland job about this time next year.
