I predicted on Facebook on Dec. 11 (the day after Chip first reported Mack was stepping down) that it would be Art Briles, so I'm sticking to that until it's not.

Schiano to Penn State makes sense to me

If you are Texas, you absolutely should pick Briles brain - find out what he's doing that Texas isn't - and even if you don't hire him - you may have messed with his recruiting a bit.

Schiano would piss off most people there. He had it made at Rutgers; make a couple mil, win eight or nine games a year in the Big East. I guess he was smart to get out before the Big Ten move, though.

"How do you do it, Art?"

    "A quarterback helps."

Briles got his entry into the college ranks when he was hired by Mike Leach at Texas Tech in 2000. Briles' son was a highly-recruited QB and the assumption was that it was Leach's attempt to get the son to commit.

The son ended up signing with UT, got moved to receiver and transferred to Houston when Art got the UH job. But for Art, the rest is history.

    Well this is interesting ...

"I have no desire to pursue other coaching positions," Baylor coach Art Briles said. "As I've said many times, I am both humbled and honored to be the head coach at Baylor University, and believe we have something special going here. I look forward to leading the Bears onto the field next fall at McLane Stadium and defending our Big 12 championship that our players and coaches worked so hard to win this season.

"There is tremendous excitement for our program's future, and I look forward to many more great seasons at Baylor," he added. "There is tremendous commitment from our University leadership, athletic administration, coaches and student-athletes - it truly is a great time to be a Baylor Bear."

Heard a radio report regarding this earlier today. Count me as a someone who respects the heck out of Briles since covering some of his teams at Houston. Having stated such, I'd be disappointed if he backed out on his word. Briles always struck me as having some integrity.

Love that. Hope it turns out to be true. As we've learned things change fast
when it comes to decimal points.

Per Bruce Feldman of CBS, Jim Mora, Jr., pulls himself out of the running for the Texas job.

Morris to Baylor would be a perfect hire.
